Toshiba Energy Systems has announced that its subsidiary, Toshiba Drive Systems, will invest Rs 562 crore to expand its manufacturing operations in Telangana. The investment was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed on April 18, 2025, in Tokyo. The ceremony was attended by Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of Toshiba Drive & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI).
According to the announcement, TTDI, a subsidiary of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, will invest 10 billion yen (approximately Rs 562 crore) to enhance its manufacturing facilities in Telangana.
Furuta expressed optimism about the project, stating, “This MoU will strengthen Toshiba’s manufacturing presence in India, creating local jobs and promoting skill development. With the support of the Telangana Government, we aim to enhance our manufacturing capabilities and provide high-quality, sustainable energy solutions for India and beyond.”
The planned investment is expected to create more than 250 direct jobs within the next three years, starting from FY2024. This move is expected to contribute significantly to the socio-economic growth of the region. Both the Telangana State Development Corporation and the Telangana Government have shown interest in exploring further opportunities for growth and skill development in the state, focusing on strengthening the local industrial ecosystem.
This agreement highlights Toshiba’s long-term commitment to India, aligning with the “Make in India” and “Export from India” initiatives. It marks a significant investment to expand Toshiba’s manufacturing capabilities in Hyderabad. The focus of the investment will be on improving assembly and testing capabilities for distribution and power transformers, addressing India’s rising demand while increasing export potential.
In addition, the new facility will enhance vertical integration, streamline production timelines, and improve product quality, safety, and operational efficiency. TTDI has already established itself as a global leader in the power transmission and distribution equipment market, exporting “Made in India” transformers to over 50 countries worldwide.
