Nexteer Automotive has introduced three innovative driveline technologies designed to meet the growing demands of electric vehicles (EVs) while enhancing the overall driving experience across various powertrains. These new technologies focus on long-lasting performance, reduced noise and vibration, and weight efficiency.
The company’s latest launch includes several key upgrades, such as the optimized Face Spline Axle, a redesigned 8-Ball Joint, and an improved Premium Double Offset Joint. Additionally, Nexteer has expanded its range of Cross-Glide Joints with new size options, specifically designed for rear axle systems that require compact designs, low vibration, and high torque handling.
One of the standout innovations is the Face Spline Axle, a patented design developed for easy integration with existing hub assemblies. This solution not only reduces noise but also helps lower the overall weight of the vehicle, boosting fuel efficiency and performance.
The redesigned 8-Ball Joint is another major development. It offers a more than 10% reduction in weight compared to traditional 6-ball joints, while maintaining strong structural integrity. This is made possible by a new design that prioritizes both strength and durability.
The Premium Double Offset Joint has also been upgraded. The new manufacturing process improves the joint’s dimensional accuracy, leading to smoother acceleration and a quieter ride, especially in high-stress driving conditions. This upgrade enhances both performance and comfort.
These driveline solutions are compatible with all types of vehicle propulsion systems, including internal combustion engines, hybrid models, and fully electric vehicles. They are particularly beneficial for EVs, where higher torque and lower cabin noise are essential. Nexteer’s components are designed to withstand the demands of modern drivetrains, ensuring global reliability, durability, and flexibility for various vehicle layouts.
Robin Milavec, President and Chief Technology Officer of Nexteer Automotive, emphasized that these innovations address the specific challenges of electric vehicles, such as space constraints and noise sensitivity, while maintaining a high-quality driving experience for all types of vehicles.
With a global presence in engineering and manufacturing, Nexteer continues to support its customers with expertise in motion control technologies. The company will showcase these new driveline advancements at Auto Shanghai 2025, alongside other innovations like rear-wheel steering, steer-by-wire, and electro-mechanical braking systems. Nexteer serves over 60 global OEMs, including major brands in North America, Europe, China, and India, shaping the future of vehicle motion with cutting-edge solutions.
