Ericsson is expanding its antenna production operations in India, reinforcing the country’s role as a key hub for innovation and manufacturing within the company’s global network. This expansion will help support the development of advanced mobile networks and accelerate the delivery of next-generation connectivity solutions.
By mid-2025, all passive antennas for the Indian market will be made locally. This move aims to shorten lead times, improve collaboration with Indian partners, and better meet market demands. It also aligns with India’s vision of becoming a digitally empowered nation. The expansion is crucial for supporting the country’s 5G rollout and improving Ericsson’s ability to respond to both regional and global market changes.
The production expansion is a joint effort with VVDN Technologies, a long-time partner of Ericsson. India now joins the company’s network of manufacturing sites, which already includes locations in Mexico, Romania, and China. This move strengthens Ericsson’s supply chain, making it more diverse and resilient.
“Antennas are key to improving network performance and driving innovation,” said Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson’s Antenna System (EAS). “Expanding production in India will help us deliver advanced solutions more quickly and closer to where next-generation networks are being built.”
The majority of antennas produced in India will also be exported, making the country a significant part of Ericsson’s global supply chain. By tailoring product development to meet local and regional needs, Ericsson aims to speed up deployment and strengthen its presence in India’s growing technology sector.
Ericsson has been in India since 1903 and became the country’s first telecom manufacturer in 1994. The company has played a major role in shaping India’s mobile industry.
As a leader in 5G technology, Ericsson has been collaborating with Indian telecom providers to build robust networks. Since 2015, the company has been supplying its Radio System to prepare the country’s infrastructure for 5G. It also helped showcase India’s first 5G demonstrations, including a live, 5G-enabled concert.
The expanded local production will be fully managed by Ericsson’s team, supported by a network of reliable suppliers to ensure top quality and operational flexibility.
“This is another important step in our long-standing relationship with India,” said Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India. “By strengthening local manufacturing and creating a more agile ecosystem, we can ensure quicker rollouts and reduce potential disruptions.”
With India now manufacturing and designing antennas for both local and international markets, Ericsson is helping to build a stronger, more responsive global infrastructure. These advanced antennas are essential for the high-speed, high-capacity networks needed to meet the growing demand for data and digital services.
For almost 150 years, Ericsson has been at the forefront of communication technology. Today, the company continues to provide mobile solutions that connect billions of people worldwide, serving both service providers and enterprises.
