Evren Signs 300 MW Renewable Power Deal with NTPC

by sthv

Evren, Brookfield’s clean energy platform in India, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC Ltd. for 300 megawatts (MW) of firm and dispatchable renewable energy. The agreement, announced earlier this week, aims to strengthen India’s renewable energy infrastructure with reliable green power.

The project will use a mix of solar, wind, and battery storage to deliver firm renewable energy. This setup is designed to ensure a steady power supply, especially during peak demand hours. According to the official statement, the combination of technologies will help power distribution companies better manage the variability of renewable energy.

This PPA will also support the development of nearly 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity, combining wind, solar, and storage. It is expected to help power utilities meet their clean energy and storage targets. Evren is a joint venture between Brookfield and Axis Energy and is focused on clean energy development in India.

Evren, based in Mumbai, plans to play a major role in India’s renewable energy transition. The company is targeting the development of more than 6 GW of solar and wind projects over the next two to three years. It has committed $5 billion to build 3.5 GW of solar and 5.5 GW of wind capacity, mostly in the state of Andhra Pradesh. About 3 GW of these projects are expected to go live by the end of 2026.

In addition to core wind and solar power, Evren is exploring new areas. These include solar module manufacturing, pumped hydro, battery energy storage, electric vehicles, and green ammonia. These investments are expected to boost economic activity in Andhra Pradesh, generate thousands of jobs, and help reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

“The FDRE tender is a major milestone for us,” said Suman Kumar, CEO of Evren. “We are building a strong portfolio with high-quality assets, including land and approved grid connections. This enables us to offer large-scale solutions to cut carbon emissions. We are fully committed to helping India reach its renewable energy goals.”

Evren’s recent collaboration with Suzlon Group further reflects its commitment to clean energy. In January 2024, Suzlon won a 642 MW wind project from ABC Cleantech Private Limited, a subsidiary of Evren. As part of the deal, Suzlon will install 214 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3 MW, in Andhra Pradesh. This project will contribute to the state’s growing renewable energy base and strengthen Evren’s clean energy portfolio.
