Human rights advocate and prominent social activist, Ayo Opadokun, emphasized yesterday that electricity is fundamental to revitalizing the manufacturing sector in Nigeria. Opadokun made this assertion during the launch event of Beamlight solar power generators, produced by a Chinese company.

The event, held at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, showcased the 2KVA and 5KVA solar generators to the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT), where Opadokun serves as a patron.

“I facilitated the unveiling of these solar generators because, as the patron of ASNAT in Lagos, I am deeply concerned about the challenges faced by our artisans,” Opadokun stated. “These hardworking individuals go to great lengths to power their tools, often relying on fossil fuels that negatively impact the ozone layer.”

Opadokun highlighted China’s significant contribution to renewable energy, noting that the country accounts for over 55 percent of alternative energy sources. He revealed that a Chinese company approached him with the proposal to introduce these solar generators to Nigeria, which have the potential to power schools, hospitals, industries, and households.

“The solar generator can be used by vulcanizers, tailors, barbers, and other artisans, providing relief from the high costs of fuel and diesel,” he explained. Opadokun also assured that payment for these generators would not be burdensome, as installment payment options are available.

“The advantage of the solar generator is that its battery can last between eight to ten years. It is portable and easy to move,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Ajayi, a representative of the Chinese company, pointed out that the maintenance of these generators is straightforward and they are equipped with essential safety components, ensuring user safety and convenience.
