In the wake of a power outage on July 16, the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA) reached out on social media, seeking assistance to keep the animals cool amid the sweltering heat.

Dawn Frohna responded by bringing ice and fans to combat the 96-degree heat that day. During her visit, Frohna discovered that the shelter lacked a generator, prompting her to take decisive action.

Determined to prevent future emergencies, Frohna launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for purchasing a generator for the KCHA.

“We experience extreme weather in West Virginia, from scorching heat to freezing temperatures,” Frohna explained. “I hope this generator will mitigate risks in the future.”

Frohna emphasized that a generator is crucial for maintaining necessary conditions at the shelter, including keeping medications cold and ensuring the safety of the animals during power outages.

“I believe having a generator is a basic necessity for the animal shelter,” she added.
