Proposal for Emergency Generator at SDFD Station Aims to Enhance Community Resilience

The Southern Door Fire Department (SDFD) is evaluating the acquisition of a Kohler-brand emergency generator for its fire station, a move that could significantly benefit local residents during power outages.

Village of Forestville Board President Terry McNulty, who also serves on the SDFD board, highlighted the potential advantages of installing the generator. McNulty emphasized that the fire station could offer a larger, more accessible refuge for residents compared to the village hall, which currently serves as the temporary shelter during outages.

The SDFD board is set to deliberate on the purchase at its upcoming August meeting. The total expense, including necessary upgrades to the station’s electrical system to support the generator, is estimated to exceed $15,000.

McNulty noted that the village would contribute half of this cost. Approximately $7,660 would be drawn from the $23,000 escrow funds allocated to the village following the Town of Nasewaupee’s separation from the SDFD last year and the establishment of its own fire department.
