New ‘Green’ Electricity Generator Proposed for Lurgan

by sthv

A planning application for a new eco-friendly electricity generator in Lurgan has gained approval, with ABC planning officers confirming that the local community has been adequately consulted and informed. The proposed generator will run on hydro-treated vegetable oil (HVO), a sustainable alternative to diesel.

Lagan Energy (Lurgan) Ltd intends to construct the generator on a site situated between Crossbows Optical and Plaswire, adjacent to an existing electricity sub-station at Halfpenny Valley Industrial Estate in Lurgan.

Community consultation for the project included a public event at Lurgan Town Hall on July 2, advertisements in the Portadown Times and Lurgan Mail, and a letter drop to all properties within 100 meters of the site. In a letter to planning agents Clyde Shanks Ltd, Exchange Place, Belfast, planning officers stated, “The council has reviewed the pre-application notification and concludes that it provides sufficient information regarding community consultation measures.”
