Hundreds of thousands of Northeast Ohio residents are grappling with power outages after severe storms swept through the region on Tuesday.
As of now, it remains uncertain when power will be restored for the more than 188,000 affected residents in Cuyahoga County. However, FirstEnergy has estimated that electricity should return to several other impacted counties by Saturday, Aug. 10, at the latest.
The storms, characterized by heavy downpours and strong winds, brought down power lines and utility poles across the region, prompting tornado warnings and watches throughout the late afternoon. Two tornadoes were later confirmed, one affecting Bedford and Valley View, and another originating in northeast Lorain County and ending in Rocky River.
As of 10 p.m. on Wednesday, more than 295,000 FirstEnergy customers remained without power, with Cuyahoga County alone accounting for over 188,000 of those outages. The majority of these were reported in Cleveland, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Parma, and Westlake.
Below is a breakdown of the outages and the estimated restoration times:
Ashtabula County: 9,271 outages, estimated restoration by 11 p.m. on Aug. 10
