At SMM 2024 in Hamburg, MAN Engines is making waves with its latest marine innovation, the D3872 V12 engine. With a robust output of 1,213 kW (1,650 hp) at 2,100 rpm, the D3872 is designed for medium-duty marine applications. The engine’s 30-liter displacement marks a significant upgrade from the previous 24-liter D2862 V12 series. Enhanced by a new coolant pump and thermostat housing, the D3872 promises improved longevity. It also offers flexibility with an outer skin cooling system option.
The engine features a redesigned cylinder head for optimized flow and cooling, and its oil supply system has been upgraded with new oil pumps and coolers. Its common rail injection system operates at 2,200 bar, supported by the advanced MD1+ engine control unit for precise tuning.
The D3872 LE433 variant delivers 1,618 kW (2,200 hp) at a weight of just 2,720 kg, while the LE432 model provides 1,213 kW (1,650 hp) at 2,100 rpm. Despite its increased power, the D3872 maintains compact dimensions, only slightly longer than its predecessor.
Equipped with a modular exhaust gas aftertreatment system, the D3872 meets stringent emission standards including EPA Tier 4 and IMO Tier III. It is also compatible with the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience and regenerative diesel fuels.
In addition, MAN Engines announced a new remanufacturing service for marine engines, with a focus on older models no longer in production. A remanufactured engine will be showcased at the event, highlighting MAN’s commitment to sustainability and service excellence.
