IHI Terrasun Solutions has been designated as the primary integrator for battery energy storage system (BESS) projects by SK On, a subsidiary of South Korea’s SK Group and one of the world’s leading electric vehicle battery manufacturers. The announcement was made following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on September 10 at the RE+ trade show in Anaheim, California.
The collaboration, officially disclosed on September 11, aims to accelerate the deployment of BESS projects across North America. This partnership leverages SK On’s extensive expertise in battery technology and IHI Terrasun’s advanced integration capabilities.
Kenshi Suzuki, President of IHI Terrasun Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Being chosen as SK On’s integrator of choice is a significant milestone for us. SK On’s profound battery knowledge and our technical proficiency in power plant software and field services create a strong foundation for successful project execution.”
Suzuki highlighted the occasion’s significance, noting that IHI Terrasun is celebrating a decade of operations in the energy storage sector. “Our industry is rapidly evolving, and we’re eager to collaborate with SK On to push the boundaries of energy storage solutions,” he added.
Ray Saka, Senior Vice President of Business Strategy and Services at IHI Terrasun, emphasized the value of the partnership. “SK On’s selection of IHI Terrasun underscores our capabilities in system integration and our expertise in both DC- and AC-block systems,” Saka said.
Under the agreement, IHI Terrasun will deploy its Assured Controls power plant software to manage all of SK On’s BESS projects in North America. The company’s integration and field engineering teams will oversee the launch and maintenance of these projects, ensuring optimal performance.
Daejin Choi, Head of ESS Business at SK On, reiterated the alignment of values between the two companies. “As we continue to expand our energy storage solutions in the U.S., IHI Terrasun’s expertise in system integration and support makes them the ideal partner. Our shared commitment to technology and sustainability will drive the success of this venture,” Choi concluded.
