Poland’s Tauron Zielona Energia has officially signed an agreement to construct the Miejska Górka wind farm, set to be the largest of its kind for the company, with an anticipated capacity of approximately 190 megawatts (MW).

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the Miejska Górka wind farm aims to meet the energy needs of nearly 200,000 households. Situated in the Rawicz district of Wielkopolska province, the project will feature 53 turbines, each boasting a rated capacity of 3.6 MW and a towering height of 134 meters. This ambitious venture marks Tauron’s largest investment in onshore installations within Poland to date.

Michał Orłowski, Vice President of Tauron Polska Energia for Asset Management and Development, emphasized the significance of wind energy in the company’s efforts to decarbonize its generation mix. He stated, “Wind farms are an important element of the decarbonization of the Tauron Group’s generation mix. The electricity production profile of wind farms complements the energy consumption profile of end users, who are increasingly generating energy from photovoltaics themselves.”

With a budget of PLN 2 billion (approximately $500 million), the Miejska Górka project is currently in the construction readiness phase, with preliminary works expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Artur Kalicki, President of the Management Board of Tauron Zielona Energia, highlighted the company’s strategic shift towards renewable energy sources. “By the end of the year, we plan to launch three wind farms with a combined capacity of over 120 MW,” he noted.

The Miejska Górka wind farm will be Tauron’s 17th project of its kind, adding to its existing portfolio of 11 operational wind farms with a total capacity of 417 MW. In addition to wind energy, Tauron is also developing three photovoltaic (PV) installations, which together will offer nearly 200 MW of capacity. Notably, the PV Postomino project will share a power connection with the Marszewo wind farm.
