MineSense and Komatsu Forge Strategic Partnership to Enhance Mining Technology

MineSense, a British Columbia-based leader in digital mining solutions, has announced a collaborative agreement with Komatsu’s Modular Mining Systems, renowned for its information management solutions in both surface and underground mining operations. This partnership aims to seamlessly integrate MineSense’s ShovelSense technology with Komatsu’s Dispatch Fleet Management and ProVision Machine Guidance systems.

ShovelSense is an innovative tool designed to assess the grade of each shovel scoop, which helps to identify misclassified materials directly at the mining face during truck loading. This immediate detection allows for the efficient re-routing of trucks to the appropriate dump locations, eliminating unnecessary handling costs.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to deliver a pre-packaged, standardized “plug-and-play” solution that facilitates the real-time exchange of loading cycle and material classification data. This integration will provide automated alerts to reroute trucks when ShovelSense detects a material mismatch, ensuring that recommendations are acted upon consistently without diverting the attention of equipment operators.

The standardized solution will be available for purchase directly through MineSense as part of its ShovelSense offering and can be activated seamlessly during implementation. This streamlined procurement process, which allows customers to have a single point of contact, will also include regular updates to maintain compatibility with future system upgrades and safeguard against emerging cybersecurity threats.

“Our aim is to make the integration of ShovelSense into mining operations as seamless as possible for our customers,” said Frank Hoogendoorn, Chief Data Officer at MineSense. “As anyone involved in mining technology interoperability projects understands, achieving reliable and secure data integration between third-party systems can be quite challenging, especially when it requires real-time, bi-directional data sharing. We are excited to be a Modular Ecosystem Partner and to offer a pre-built, ready-to-deploy solution.”

Greg Lanz, General Manager of Technology Interoperability at Komatsu, added, “We recognize the significant value we can create for our customers by enabling open data integration. The Modular Ecosystem represents the future of digital mining collaboration, and we are thrilled to see our early adopter partners like MineSense embrace these integrations.”
