Danish energy giant Ørsted has successfully launched the Eleven Mile Solar Center, a significant renewable energy initiative located in Pinal County, near Phoenix, Arizona. This project comprises a 300MW solar farm paired with a 300MW/1200MWh battery energy storage system, designed to generate enough electricity to power approximately 65,000 homes while storing up to 1,200MWh of energy daily.

The Eleven Mile Solar Center will supply power to various customers, including residential and commercial entities, as well as Meta’s forthcoming data center in Mesa, Arizona.

David Hardy, executive vice president and CEO of Region Americas at Ørsted, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Solar energy paired with battery energy storage will be critical to the reliable delivery of power as the demand for electricity grows. We’re thrilled to have completed our first project in Arizona and added a valuable asset to our US portfolio, which will help meet the growing demand of the state and region with reliable, clean energy.”

Arizona Corporate Commissioner Lea Marquez Peterson emphasized the project’s importance, noting, “The Eleven Mile Solar Center represents a significant investment in southern Arizona and support for our state’s growing energy needs. The Eleven Mile project exemplifies how clean energy can help us diversify our resources while ensuring reliability for the local grid.”

With the launch of the Eleven Mile Solar Center, Ørsted’s global onshore renewable energy portfolio now stands at 5.6GW. The company operates five solar and storage facilities across the United States, with plans for a sixth currently under construction. Looking ahead, Ørsted aims to expand its capacity to between 11 and 13GW of onshore wind, solar, and storage by 2030.
