Eaton Introduces Comprehensive Clutch and Flywheel Kits for AMTs

Eaton has announced a significant advancement in its offerings for the Eaton-Cummins Endurant automated manual transmission (AMT) with the introduction of combined Advantage automated series clutch and Cummins flywheel kits. This marks the first time that these components will be sold as a single kit.

The flywheel serves as a crucial interface between the engine and the clutch, bolted securely to the engine and spinning during operation. It is complemented by the clutch cover, which is also attached to the flywheel and rotates simultaneously. Over time, the driven disc of the clutch engages with the flywheel, leading to wear.

Leandro Girardi, director of Aftermarket for Eaton’s Mobility Group, highlighted a shift in industry standards, stating, “Today’s manufacturers recommend that flywheels should be replaced rather than the previous practice of resurfacing worn flywheels. This ensures the flywheel fits correctly to engage with the clutch and prevents fault codes, excessive wear, and vibrations.”

The Advantage Automated clutch is the original equipment clutch utilized in the Endurant transmission. Eaton claims that this clutch provides enhanced protection, reduced maintenance, and maximized uptime and performance.

“Replacing the clutch and flywheel simultaneously offers several advantages, including saving time and labor while eliminating the risk of one component wearing out before the other,” Girardi added. “This approach also ensures optimal vehicle performance and protects against driveline wear.”
