Hamilton police have uncovered another large hole in Gage Park after discovering a deep trench and a series of tunnels earlier this week.
On Thursday, Const. Trevor McKenna revealed that the newly found T-shaped hole spans over 3.5 meters in length and 1.5 meters in depth. Inside, officers found a generator and wiring, partially concealed by a tent and a wooden pallet.
McKenna confirmed that one person had been arrested and charged with mischief. The individual was also wanted by police in another jurisdiction.
“This is damage to property, and the wiring poses a safety hazard,” McKenna said.
The day prior, police had discovered another two-meter-deep hole, part of a makeshift power system. Encampment residents had run extension cords from their tents through tunnels to a buried generator, which was connected to wires from a city light post. A separate arrest was made in connection with that incident.
