Several hospitals in Aroostook County are running on generator power due to ongoing power outages that began Thursday. Northern Light AR Gould confirmed it remains open to serve patients, although some services have been impacted due to the limitations of generator support.
Karen Gonya, Communications Manager for AR Gould, explained that while the hospital continues to operate, outpatient services, in particular, have been affected. However, she reassured the public that Walk-In Care services in Caribou and Presque Isle will remain open until 8 p.m. today, and the emergency department will operate 24/7. Gonya advised people to check the hospital’s Facebook page for updates on any additional closures.
Similarly, Cary Medical Center in Caribou is also using generator power but is continuing to offer its services. Bill Flagg, Community Relations and Development Coordinator, noted that the hospital’s cafeteria has been especially busy, as locals and visitors have been stopping by for meals.
On a positive note, other hospitals in the region have not experienced major disruptions. Houlton Regional Hospital and Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent have both confirmed they have not been affected by the power outages.
