New Forest for Ukraine (NFFU), a group of dedicated volunteers, has been working tirelessly for over a year to provide essential aid to Ukraine. The team has focused on collecting and sending generators, along with other vital supplies, to help Ukrainian communities struggling with power outages due to ongoing attacks on infrastructure.
In addition to the generators, NFFU has recently received a donation of 70 stoves, aimed at providing much-needed heat and power in a country where temperatures can dip as low as -20°C. These donations are crucial as Ukraine continues to face regular power disruptions caused by the conflict.
Sandra Quinn, press coordinator and volunteer with NFFU, explained the urgency of the effort: “Our contacts in Ukraine have been telling us that generators are desperately needed, especially in winter,” she said. “We’ve been fortunate to receive both new and used generators, all of which are thoroughly checked and serviced before being sent out.”
NFFU operates with a network of verified teams in Ukraine to ensure the aid reaches the communities that need it most. Many of these communities send back heartfelt photos and messages of thanks, highlighting the difference these donations make.
Founded in February 2022, NFFU has been sending tonnes of humanitarian aid funded by public donations. The organization has set up numerous collection points across the New Forest, including garden centres, shops, and volunteers’ homes. From these locations, the collected supplies are transported to the Lymington hub for shipment to Ukraine.
John Allison, head of NFFU, emphasized the life-saving impact of each generator: “Every generator is a lifeline for families and communities who rely on them to power phones, lamps, or cook and heat food when power is cut off,” he said. “We urge anyone who can to donate a usable generator or contribute to our fund to purchase more.”
As winter approaches, the ongoing need for such supplies remains critical, and NFFU continues to appeal for donations to help provide vital resources to those in need.
