The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations continues to support Ukrainian farmers, with the recent transfer of 185 generators to help sustain agricultural operations during the ongoing crisis. Additionally, the FAO plans to deliver another 65 generators by the end of 2024, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval, who met with FAO representatives led by Mohammed Azuka, Head of the FAO office in Ukraine.
Since the onset of the crisis, 1,642 Ukrainian farmers have received critical supplies, including 6,474 hoses, each capable of handling 200 tonnes. A total of 2,550 applications have been submitted for the program, which aims to ensure that farmers continue to have the tools needed for survival and productivity during wartime.
In their meeting, the Ukrainian ministry and the FAO delegation discussed a range of key issues, including international food security, support for Ukrainian farmers, and the ongoing European integration process. They also emphasized the importance of developing agricultural diplomacy and providing training programs for agricultural attachés. These efforts are expected to help modernize Ukraine’s agricultural sector and promote its products on the global market.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy stressed the need for continued support to align Ukrainian farming practices with EU standards, as part of the country’s long-term agricultural strategy through 2030. Such efforts are expected to provide Ukrainian farmers with the resources they need to meet future EU requirements and maximize opportunities in international markets.
As part of its commitment, the FAO has also outlined a two-year work plan for 2025, which aims to address both the immediate needs of Ukrainian farmers and the long-term goal of revitalizing agricultural production by 2026.
