Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), a part of Steel Authority of India (SAIL), has announced the construction of a 200-KW elevated solar power plant at the Maitri Bagh Zoo in the company’s township in Chhattisgarh. The initiative, developed in partnership with the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA), will be the first elevated solar power plant in the state.
Innovative Solar Power Solution
The project features elevated solar panels, mounted above the ground to maximize space utilization beneath the structure. This design allows for outdoor seating, storage, and even the cultivation of fodder for animals. The solar power plant will generate 24,000 units of electricity per month and 288,000 units annually, supplying power to both the zoo and the adjacent Jawahar Udyan.
High-Efficiency Solar Technology
The elevated plant will be one of the tallest solar installations in the region and uses high-efficiency monocrystalline bifacial solar modules, which capture sunlight from both the front and back sides, increasing energy production while taking up less space.
This sustainable initiative not only strengthens the region’s renewable energy infrastructure but also supports the conservation and development of the zoo, contributing to a cleaner, greener environment for both animals and visitors.
