Doosan Enerbility announced on December 24 that it has secured an equipment supply contract with Hyundai Engineering for the Namyangju Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant, set to be constructed in Jingeon-eup, Namyangju-si, in Gyeonggi Province. The plant, designed to provide both electricity and district heating to the Wangsuk New Town, is scheduled to begin construction in May 2025, with a completion target of June 2028.
As part of the agreement, Doosan Enerbility will supply one 180㎿ steam turbine and one generator by the end of 2026, with the contract valued at approximately 61 billion won.
A Key Player in Combined Heat and Power Technology
The Namyangju plant will utilize combined heat and power (CHP) technology, which enables the simultaneous generation of electricity and useful heat from the same energy source, offering greater efficiency than traditional energy generation methods. This project is part of a broader effort to address housing shortages and foster regional development, specifically through the Wangsuk New Town initiative.
Doosan Enerbility’s Strong Track Record
Son Seung-woo, head of the Power Service BG at Doosan Enerbility, emphasized the company’s experience in the sector. “We have proven our technology and reliability by winning orders for six steam turbines and generators for domestic combined cycle power plants over the past three years,” Son said. He also pointed out that Doosan Enerbility is focused on expanding its presence in the market, noting that more than four combined cycle power plant equipment orders are expected each year starting in 2025.
This contract represents a significant step for Doosan Enerbility as it continues to contribute to sustainable energy projects that support urban development and energy efficiency in South Korea.
