A fire has gutted a generator house at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) on Oshodi Road, Lagos. The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received an emergency distress call at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday. In response, LASEMA activated its emergency response team from the Cappa Base in Oshodi. Upon arriving at 10:22 p.m., the team discovered that a generator house was completely engulfed in flames.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by overheating from the generator engine. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported as a result of the incident.
The fire destroyed approximately 80% of the generator house. However, LASEMA’s quick intervention prevented the blaze from spreading to other buildings within the FIIRO complex.
