By the end of 2024, five additional wind power plants (WPP) are expected to be commissioned in the Ternopil region, according to regional officials. In the Zborivka territorial community of Ternopil, two more wind turbines will be installed to boost electricity generation, as reported by Public. Ternopil.
Ruslan Maksimiv, the head of the Zborivka community, confirmed that four wind turbines are already operational in the area. The new turbines were initially scheduled for installation at the beginning of the fall, but delays in equipment delivery pushed the timeline back. Despite this setback, the turbines are expected to be completed by year-end.
Stepan Shiliga, General Director of the power generation company overseeing the project, explained that the turbines and associated equipment were purchased abroad. While the equipment is pre-used, it has been purchased at a significantly reduced cost. Shiliga noted that additional work is needed to integrate the turbines into the local electrical grid, including checking electrical connections, setting up cables, transformer substations, and high-voltage switches, which are expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
Each of the new turbines will have a capacity of 2 MW, compared to the 650 kW capacity of the existing turbines. Maksimiv shared that the four operating turbines have already contributed nearly 1 million UAH to the local community’s budget in just nine months.
Stepan Kuibida, First Deputy Head of Ternopil Regional Military Administration (OVA), added that the region currently has two wind power plants with a combined capacity of over 5 MW. These plants have produced nearly 5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity since the start of the year. With five more plants set to come online by the year’s end, the region is making significant strides in renewable energy development.
In a related development, the Truskavets community was recently returned land originally granted to Skolevska WES LLC for the construction of a wind farm. This move highlights the continued growth and challenges in Ukraine’s wind energy sector.
