This allowed them to steal the heavy-duty generator without detection. According to James Kutosi, spokesperson for the Mbale City Council, the stolen generator was essential for providing backup power to the city’s financial management system and construction laboratory. Kutosi expressed his frustration over the theft, especially considering the presence of armed police officers on duty. “This theft, along with other recent incidents, highlights a serious breakdown in security, particularly since these events are happening right under the noses of the officers guarding the premises,” Kutosi stated.

Earlier in the year, another break-in at the town clerk’s office saw thieves make off with three laptops and supplies of bitumen intended for road construction projects.
