Vodafone Ukraine, the country’s second-largest mobile operator, has announced the purchase of 600 additional generators and 22,000 lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries to support its network of base stations.
The company revealed in a Telegram post on Tuesday that this new equipment will enhance the backup power capabilities of its base stations. The generators will increase backup power capacity by 1.3 times, while the new batteries, which are already being distributed for installation, will double the backup power capacity at these stations.
Vodafone Ukraine emphasized that LiFePO4 batteries are particularly suited to challenging conditions, making them a more reliable option for maintaining network operations in critical situations.
“This is our New Year’s gift to the country!” the company said in the post. “Despite the challenges of wartime, from logistical issues to staffing, we are committed to modernizing our network. We continue working hard to ensure that Ukrainians stay connected with their families and friends in 2025.”
Earlier this year, Vodafone Ukraine had announced the purchase of 13,500 additional LiFePO4 rechargeable batteries. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the company has secured around 500 mobile generators and relied on 700 partner generators to keep its network running during power outages.
Vodafone Ukraine has equipped more than 1,500 base stations with backup power solutions, including its own stationary and mobile generators, as well as those provided by partners and customers.
