Guyana Power and Light (GPL) and APAN Energy, the company that supplied 18 used generators from Honduras in 2023, are currently engaged in legal discussions over the late delivery of the engines. GPL intends to seek liquidated damages for the delay.
Attorney General Anil Nandlall SC confirmed the matter is being reviewed by external legal counsel, London House Chambers, at the request of GPL. The counsel has been instructed to pursue claims for liquidated damages and compensation due to any breach of contract. London House Chambers has already contacted APAN Energy’s legal team to begin the process.
During a press conference at the end of last year, President Irfaan Ali revealed that the government had made it clear to GPL that when services are paid for and delivery is not met, actions must be taken. “The Attorney General has been tasked with overseeing the process, and action is already underway,” President Ali said, adding that the AG is handling all matters related to performance and any other issues surrounding the situation.
