A Bluebridge ferry, the Strait Feronia, experienced a delay in its journey across Cook Strait due to an engine problem but has since resumed normal operations. The vessel was stranded off Wellington’s south coast earlier, where it faced challenging conditions with waves reaching up to 4 meters in height.
Wellington Harbour Master Grant Nalder confirmed that the ferry encountered an issue with one of its engines. However, the problem has been resolved, and the ship is now continuing its scheduled voyage.
Bluebridge, the ferry operator, clarified that the engine was shut down in a controlled manner and emphasized that the vessel never lost power during the incident. Passengers and crew remained safe throughout the delay.
The Strait Feronia is a key link for travel and transport between New Zealand’s North and South Islands, and the operator has assured the public that services are running as usual following the temporary disruption.
