KYLE, Texas — The city of Kyle has received a $1.3 million Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to improve its infrastructure. The Kyle City Council approved the grant on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
The funding will be used to purchase and install eight permanent generators at key water system sites across the city. These generators will provide backup power, ensuring the water supply remains available to residents during emergencies.
The generators will be placed at the following locations:
- 150 Agate Lake Drive
- 751 Kohlers Crossing
- 1193 Yarrington Road
- 260 Old Stagecoach Road
- 701 Moore St.
- 225 Veterans Drive
- Lift Station at 642 Masonwood Drive
- Kensington Trails Lift Station
Each site will also undergo improvements, including the installation of automatic transfer switches, concrete pads for the generators, and additional security features such as fencing where necessary. Other upgrades include piping, wiring, conduits, and electrical modifications.
Mike Murphy, Director of Water Utilities for the City of Kyle, emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “This project and funding will play an integral role in our continued commitment to building a more sustainable and resilient infrastructure in Kyle. These generators, strategically placed across our developing communities, are a necessary tool in achieving citywide water security, when it is most needed.”
The grant application was submitted after the severe winter storms of February 2021, which caused disruptions in water services.
The city will collaborate with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to implement the project and manage the funding.
