The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is struggling to attract interest from the industry in providing alternative power sources near a trouble spot in San Antonio. The grid operator had hoped to find replacements for a fleet of portable generators that were to be relocated to the area. This move would allow CPS Energy to shut down some of its aging gas-powered plants later this year.
ERCOT had set a deadline of December 30 for market participants to submit questions ahead of pitching potential power solutions. However, no inquiries were received. Typically, companies interested in bidding would submit questions before the final deadline, which is usually in mid-January.
