The City of Yreka has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Pacific Power Foundation to fund the installation of a backup generator at City Hall. This upgrade will enable the facility to serve as a reliable community hub during power outages, ensuring essential services remain operational.
According to a city news release, the total cost of the generator is estimated at $15,000. The grant will help offset a portion of the expense, with the city covering the remaining funds.
City Manager Jason Ledbetter emphasized the importance of the project in a statement. “Installing a backup generator addresses a critical infrastructure need in Yreka,” he said. “City Hall is the headquarters for municipal services, and this generator will ensure we can maintain full functionality during power outages, providing uninterrupted support to our community.”
The initiative highlights the city’s commitment to improving resilience and preparedness, particularly in the face of increasing power disruptions. Once installed, the generator will ensure that Yreka residents can continue to access vital services even during emergencies.
