Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (OREDA) to encourage more households in Odisha to install rooftop solar systems. This initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY), a central government scheme aimed at boosting solar energy adoption. Odisha residents can benefit from substantial subsidies, with up to INR 60,000 available from the state for systems up to 3 kW. When combined with the central government subsidy of INR 78,000 under PMSGY, the total subsidy can reach INR 138,000 for a 3 kW system, making it one of the most attractive subsidy packages in India.
Tata Power, which operates power distribution in Odisha through four DISCOMs in collaboration with the state government, will play a key role in implementing the PMSGY scheme. OREDA has named TPREL as one of its preferred solar partners, with a goal to install solar systems in 300,000 households by 2027.
TPREL will provide reliable and easy-to-use solar solutions, along with lifetime maintenance support. The company, together with OREDA and financial partners, will run awareness campaigns in busy locations like malls, airports, and train stations. TPREL will also produce educational materials on the advantages of renewable energy, organize training programs for local vendors, and help build local expertise in installing and maintaining rooftop solar systems.
OREDA will work closely with TPREL on public awareness efforts and offer guidance to government agencies. The initiative will first target major cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Paradip, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Balasore, and Rourkela, with plans to expand across the entire state in the future.
This partnership aims to make solar energy more accessible and affordable for Odisha residents, contributing to the state’s renewable energy goals.
