STMicroelectronics has introduced the VNH9030AQ, an integrated full-bridge DC motor driver designed to streamline automotive drive systems while reducing costs. The driver supports a wide range of automotive applications, including those requiring functional safety, and is equipped with advanced diagnostics to enhance system reliability.
The VNH9030AQ features a dedicated pin for real-time output status monitoring, eliminating the need for additional circuitry and simplifying the bill of materials. With a low on-resistance of 30mΩ per leg, the driver is ideal for mid- to low-power DC motor applications, such as door-control modules, washer pumps, powered lift gates, powered trunks, and seat adjusters.
One of the key innovations of the VNH9030AQ is its integrated, non-dissipative current-sensing circuitry. This feature monitors the current in each motor phase, improving system efficiency and reducing the need for external components. Additionally, the driver’s low standby power consumption, even across a wide temperature range, makes it a strong fit for zonal controller platforms.
The device integrates high-side and low-side MOSFETs with gate drivers, offering robust protection against overvoltage transients, undervoltage, short circuits, and cross-conduction. Its flexible configuration allows MOSFETs to be used in parallel or series modes, making it adaptable for multi-motor systems or specific application needs.
Built using ST’s latest VIPower M09 technology, the VNH9030AQ enables efficient, monolithic integration of power and logic components. It comes in a compact, thermally optimized 6mm x 6mm triple-pad QFN package, which enhances cooling efficiency. The driver shares a common pinout with other products in the series, simplifying layout design and software reuse.
The VNH9030AQ is now in production and is priced at $2.48 per unit for orders of 1,000 pieces. This cost-effective solution is poised to benefit automotive manufacturers seeking to improve system performance while reducing complexity and costs.
