The cutter head of the “Jianghaihao” shield tunneling machine, boasting a massive diameter of 16.64 meters, was successfully installed during a ceremony held on Wednesday. The event took place at the construction site of the Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel in Nantong City, located in east China’s Jiangsu Province.
The Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel, spanning 39.07 kilometers, is a critical infrastructure project connecting Haimen District in Nantong City with Taicang in Suzhou City, both within Jiangsu Province. The installation of the cutter head marks a significant milestone in the tunnel’s construction progress.
Aerial drone footage captured the moment, showcasing the massive cutter head being mounted onto the shield tunneling machine. The “Jianghaihao” is one of the largest of its kind, reflecting China’s advanced engineering capabilities in large-scale infrastructure projects.
The Haitai Yangtze River Tunnel is expected to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate transportation, and support economic development in the area. The project underscores Jiangsu Province’s commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering growth in the Yangtze River Delta region.
The successful installation of the cutter head paves the way for the next phase of construction, bringing the project closer to its completion.
