Mahindra Susten, the clean-tech arm of the Mahindra Group, has reached a major milestone by gaining approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term emissions reduction goals. This recognition underscores the company’s dedication to sustainability and its efforts to promote a cleaner, greener future.
The SBTi, a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and WWF, sets rigorous standards for companies committed to reducing their environmental impact. It independently assesses corporate targets to ensure they align with the latest climate science. Mahindra Susten’s approved targets include cutting absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 51.8% by FY30, using FY21 as the baseline.
The company also aims to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions by 51.6% per megawatt peak (MWp) during the same period. These goals are in line with the Paris Agreement’s target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, highlighting Mahindra Susten’s proactive role in addressing climate change.

Mahindra Susten has already made significant progress in sustainability. The company has achieved 100% water positivity by replenishing more water than it uses and has earned a Zero-Waste-to-Landfill certification for its 1.5 GWp solar portfolio. Additionally, it has strengthened its supply chain by evaluating the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices of key suppliers.
Looking ahead, Mahindra Susten aims to set a global benchmark for renewable energy generation, focusing on operational excellence and transparency. This latest approval from the SBTi further solidifies its position as a leader in the clean energy sector.
