Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA), a global leader in coatings, has teamed up with Dürr Systems AG, a leading mechanical and plant engineering company, to develop an innovative digital paint solution. The collaboration merges Axalta’s NextJet™ technology with Dürr’s advanced robotics integration capabilities.
Digital paint, also referred to as overspray-free application, allows for precise paint placement without traditional masking techniques. Under the agreement, Dürr will serve as the robotics integrator for Axalta’s NextJet™ system, which is designed specifically for light vehicle Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Hadi Awada, President of Global Mobility Coatings at Axalta, commented on the partnership, stating, “By combining Axalta’s coating expertise with Dürr’s robotics integration, we can offer OEMs a maskless solution for two-tone and graphic paint applications. This collaboration is a significant step forward in advancing digital paint technology.”
Dr. Lars Friedrich, CEO of Dürr Systems AG, added, “We are excited to work with Axalta to push the boundaries of digital paint. Dürr’s experience in overspray-free applications and our deep understanding of OEM needs for custom vehicle designs complement Axalta’s innovations perfectly. Together, we can deliver cutting-edge technology to meet the growing demands of our customers.”
This partnership leverages the extensive expertise both companies have developed in digital paint solutions over the years. In 2023, Axalta collaborated with Xaar to provide advanced digital paint technologies for light vehicle OEMs. Xaar continues to play a key role in the digital paint solutions that Axalta and Dürr are bringing to market.
The collaboration between Axalta and Dürr marks a significant milestone in the automotive industry, paving the way for more efficient and customizable paint applications. By integrating their respective strengths, the two companies aim to set new standards in digital paint technology, offering OEMs innovative solutions that enhance both efficiency and design flexibility.
