AFC Energy has officially launched its 2nd Generation H-Power S+ 200kW generator, marking a major step forward in hydrogen power technology for construction and off-grid energy applications. The new model builds upon the success of its first-generation prototype, developed in collaboration with ABB, and offers significant improvements in size, weight, and cost-effectiveness.
The H-Power S+ 200kW Genset is now 34% smaller, 28% lighter, and 65% more affordable than its predecessor, making it more practical and accessible for deployment across a wide range of sectors. These advancements are part of AFC Energy’s broader strategy to reduce adoption barriers and drive the growth of the hydrogen power market.
A key feature of the new genset is its eligibility for the Red Diesel Replacement (RDR) Grant, which accelerates its deployment in the field. The first installation of the unit will take place at a Brett Aggregates site, where it will provide power to facility operations, showcasing its capabilities in a real-world setting.
AFC Energy’s innovation is supported by the RDR programme, which is managed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. As part of the programme, up to £40 million in matched funding from the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) is being allocated to support clean energy technologies for sectors like construction, mining, and quarrying. This funding is designed to help commercialize sustainable solutions and support the UK’s ambitious net-zero goals for the 2020s and 2030s.
