Tata Motors Launches Advanced Vehicle Scrapping Facility in Guwahati

Tata Motors, a leading Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer, has launched an advanced vehicle scrapping facility in Guwahati. The new facility, named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect,’ is designed to dismantle up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually, following eco-friendly and sustainable methods. Located in partnership with Axom Platinum Scrappers, the facility is equipped to process both passenger and commercial vehicles from all brands. This marks Tata Motors’ seventh such facility in India, with others in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, and Pune.

The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures including Shri Jogen Mohan, Minister of Hill Areas Development, Transport, Cooperation, Indigenous and Tribal Faith & Culture; Shri Ashok Singhal, Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Irrigation; Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors; and Dr. Sanjive Narain, Director of Axom Automobiles. Senior officials from the Government of Assam, Tata Motors, and Axom Automobiles were also present.

In his address, Shri Jogen Mohan emphasized the facility’s potential to create jobs and boost the local economy. He also highlighted its role in safely disposing of end-of-life vehicles, reducing carbon emissions, and contributing to a cleaner environment. Mohan thanked Tata Motors for bringing such innovative projects to Assam.

Shri Ashok Singhal also spoke at the event, stressing the facility’s role in promoting a greener and more sustainable Assam. He noted that the modern plant would improve the state’s vehicle disposal ecosystem, benefiting both the environment and the people of Assam.

Girish Wagh shared his thoughts on the facility’s opening, saying, “With the launch of the Northeast’s first Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati, Tata Motors takes a significant step toward responsible vehicle scrapping in the region. By following the principles of a circular economy, we are supporting sustainability through our network of RVSFs, which can now process over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. We are thankful to Axom Platinum Scrappers for partnering with us, and we appreciate the continuous support of the state government and local authorities.”

The Re.Wi.Re facility is fully digitalized, providing a paperless and seamless operation. It includes both cell-type and line-type dismantling systems for commercial and passenger vehicles, with specialized stations for handling components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases. Every vehicle undergoes a comprehensive documentation and dismantling process, ensuring compliance with national vehicle scrappage policies and the safe disposal of all parts. The Re.Wi.Re initiative marks a significant advancement in sustainable practices in the automotive sector.
