Rolls-Royce has announced plans to double its sourcing from India over the next five years. The move is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its supply chain for advanced aerospace engines, naval propulsion systems, and other power solutions. This expansion aligns with India’s growing role in the global defense sector and supports the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative.
Currently, Rolls-Royce sources high-precision parts and engine components from Indian suppliers for its civil aerospace, defense, and power systems divisions. However, the company has not disclosed the total value of these sourced products.
Nicola Grady-Smith, Chief Transformation Officer at Rolls-Royce, emphasized India’s importance as a global sourcing hub. “India is rapidly becoming a key player in our supply chain,” she said. “We are committed to deepening our partnerships here, which aligns with both our growth plans and India’s vision for self-reliance in manufacturing.”
Grady-Smith added that Rolls-Royce has already helped build advanced manufacturing capabilities in India, meeting global standards. “Our focus now is to strengthen relationships with existing and new suppliers to develop local manufacturing of complex engine components for international markets,” she explained.
Rolls-Royce has established a strong presence in India, including strategic partnerships, a skilled workforce, and advanced engineering and digital capabilities. The company has also facilitated technology transfers for the licensed production of defense engines.
Alex Zino, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Future Programmes at Rolls-Royce, highlighted India’s strategic importance. “India is not just a sourcing hub for us; it’s a critical partner in advancing defense technologies,” he said. “By strengthening our supply chain and ecosystem now, we are laying the groundwork for future co-production opportunities, supporting India’s goal of becoming a self-reliant defense leader.”
The company has formed joint ventures with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and Force Motors. It also maintains long-term partnerships with Indian firms like Tata, Bharat Forge, and Godrej & Boyce for the manufacture and sourcing of complex components. Additionally, Rolls-Royce employs over 2,000 highly skilled engineers in India, who contribute to global development projects.
Rolls-Royce is a global leader in advanced power and propulsion solutions, serving critical applications across air, sea, and land. Its products and services support connectivity between people, societies, and economies, while also meeting the growing demand for power generation across industries. The company also provides governments with power solutions to support their armed forces.
With operations in over 150 countries, Rolls-Royce serves more than 400 airlines and leasing customers, 160 armed forces and navies, and over 5,000 power and nuclear customers. The company is also committed to sustainability, aiming to make its products compatible with net-zero carbon emissions.
By doubling its sourcing from India, Rolls-Royce aims to further integrate the country into its global supply chain while supporting India’s ambitions to become a global manufacturing and defense leader.
