Eberspaecher, a leading automotive systems supplier, and Farasis Energy Europe, a specialist in battery technology, have announced an exclusive strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to develop, market, sell, and produce low-voltage batteries for the automotive sector, focusing on next-generation 12V and 48V systems for mild hybrid and electric vehicles.
The two companies, both based in the Stuttgart region, will combine their expertise to deliver advanced low-voltage battery solutions. These batteries are expected to play a key role in applications such as starter systems, back-up power, and mild hybrid technologies. Johannes Weber, Vice President of Eberspaecher’s Automotive Electronics Business Unit, highlighted the synergy between Eberspaecher’s battery management systems and Farasis’ capabilities in battery cell and housing technology. This partnership, he said, will enable them to better address the evolving needs of automotive manufacturers.
Thomas Schnepf, General Manager of Farasis Energy Europe, added that the collaboration will provide customers with optimized battery solutions from a single source. By leveraging Farasis’ expertise in cell production and Eberspaecher’s strong customer interface capabilities, the partnership aims to offer integrated, high-performance solutions tailored to the automotive industry.
In 2024, Eberspaecher achieved a significant milestone by launching one of Europe’s first ASIL-C rated 12V lithium-ion battery management systems. This innovation marks a major step in the shift from traditional lead-acid batteries to lighter, more efficient lithium-ion alternatives. The transition not only reduces vehicle weight but also enhances safety, particularly for automated driving systems. Eberspaecher is now working on the next generation of battery management systems, targeting voltage ranges between 12V and 48V.
Eberspaecher Group, headquartered in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, is a global leader in automotive systems development. With around 11,200 employees across 80 locations worldwide, the family-owned company specializes in exhaust technology, automotive electronics, and thermal management solutions. Its products are designed to improve comfort, safety, and sustainability across combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles. Eberspaecher is also actively involved in pioneering future mobility solutions, including fuel cell applications, synthetic fuels, and hydrogen energy technologies. In 2023, the group reported revenues of €6.4 billion, with an adjusted net revenue of €3.0 billion.
This partnership underscores the growing importance of low-voltage battery systems in the automotive industry, as manufacturers increasingly adopt hybrid and electric technologies to meet global sustainability goals.
