BorgWarner Secures Four Electric Motor Contracts with Major Chinese Automakers

by sthv

BorgWarner has strengthened its position in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market by securing four new contracts with three leading Chinese automakers. These agreements include supplying advanced electric motors for hybrid and fully electric platforms, with production timelines set between 2025 and 2026.

One of the contracts involves providing 400V high-voltage hairpin (HVH) motors for a 200kW hybrid rear-drive platform. Production for this project is scheduled to begin in August 2025. Additionally, BorgWarner will supply 150kW electric motors for a major Chinese automaker’s pure electric platform, with mass production expected to start in March 2026.

To meet the rising demand for NEVs in China, BorgWarner has introduced its latest innovation: the Ultra Short High Voltage Hairpin (S-HVH) eMotor technology. This cutting-edge solution features an optimized manufacturing process that reduces end turn length by over 5mm. The result is a more compact design with improved power density and copper efficiency.

The S-HVH technology offers several key benefits. First, it optimizes copper usage, reducing material costs while boosting performance. This makes it a cost-effective and energy-efficient option for next-generation electric vehicles. Second, the technology’s increased power density allows for smaller and lighter powertrains without sacrificing performance, enabling automakers to design more efficient and space-saving vehicles.

Another advantage is its flexibility. The S-HVH technology is compatible with both 400V and 800V platforms, making it suitable for a wide range of NEVs. This adaptability ensures that BorgWarner’s solutions can meet the diverse needs of the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.

With these new contracts and technological advancements, BorgWarner continues to solidify its role as a key player in the global transition to electric mobility.
