Atlas Copco has unveiled its latest innovation in the QAC range of containerized generators: the QAC 1450 TwinPower™. Designed for Modular Power Plant (MPP) applications, this new model delivers double the power, exceptional fuel efficiency, and unmatched versatility to meet demanding operational needs.
The QAC 1450 TwinPower™ features a 20ft ISO container housing two compact 725 kVA generators. These generators are powered by V8 Scania engines with double-bearing alternators. The system’s fast-paralleling capability allows the two units to operate independently or in tandem, ensuring flexibility and reliability. Additionally, the system complies fully with EU regulations.
Sergio Salvador, Product Marketing Manager at Atlas Copco’s Power and Flow division, highlighted the benefits of the TwinPower concept. “Whether operating at full load or low load, the TwinPower system delivers the same output, performance, and efficiency as a single generator, achieving up to 10% in fuel savings,” he explained. “Essentially, two smaller engines work together like one large generator, offering greater flexibility and reducing the overall cost of ownership.”
The QAC 1450 is equipped with a user-friendly centralized control and monitoring system. It includes two Qc4003 digital controllers with intuitive touchscreens and supports both island and Power Management System (PMS) modes. For added versatility, the unit can function as a standalone generator, operate in parallel with other generators, or synchronize with mains power to handle larger tasks.
Built to withstand challenging conditions, the QAC 1450 performs reliably in high-altitude environments and temperatures up to 50°C, thanks to its intelligent cooling system. Maintenance was a key focus during the design process, with features like large access doors and custom service tools ensuring minimal downtime. The system requires less than two hours of maintenance per 500 hours of operation. Notably, even during maintenance, the unit retains 50% of its total capacity, ensuring continuous operation.
The QAC 1450 is engineered for demanding industries such as mining, construction, oil and gas, transport, and utilities. It meets and exceeds international standards, including ISO 8528, and complies with all current EU safety and environmental regulations.
The TwinPower concept, introduced in 2016, integrates two independent generators within a single container. The QAC 1450 is the latest addition to this line, with more models tailored to specific applications and customer needs set to launch throughout 2018.
Atlas Copco’s QAC 1450 TwinPower™ represents a significant step forward in generator technology, offering enhanced power, efficiency, and adaptability for a wide range of industrial applications.
