Gujarat is emerging as a key player in India’s push to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. With strong government policies, advanced infrastructure, and strategic initiatives, the state is rapidly becoming a top destination for semiconductor investments. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is fostering a robust Semiconductor & Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem to drive innovation, research, and manufacturing excellence.
Following the success of the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Gujarat government, in partnership with the global semiconductor association SEMI and the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), has announced “Gujarat SemiConnect 2025.” This event is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s semiconductor self-sufficiency.
Guided by Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Gujarat has quickly capitalized on new opportunities, attracting major semiconductor investments. The state government is focused on developing a sustainable and resilient semiconductor ecosystem to ensure long-term growth.
Mona Khandhar, IAS, Principal Secretary of DST, highlighted the significance of the sector, stating, “A strong Semiconductor & ESDM industry can boost India’s economy, drive innovation, and enhance national security. Hosting the second edition of Gujarat SemiConnect, including the IESA Vision Summit and ISPEC, underlines Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s semiconductor revolution. We are committed to making Gujarat a global semiconductor leader and look forward to collaborating with visionaries worldwide.”
The event is expected to attract over 1,500 delegates, including top government officials, industry leaders, MSMEs, startups, academia, and more than 25 government representatives. Discussions will focus on policy frameworks and strategies shaping the semiconductor and electronics sectors.
IESA Chairperson Dr. V Veerappan and President Ashok Chandak emphasized the summit’s role in boosting semiconductor manufacturing in India. “The IESA Vision Summit 2025 reaffirms our commitment to building a strong semiconductor ecosystem. With participation from global supply chains, we aim to accelerate India’s journey toward becoming a semiconductor hub. This year, we will host six country delegations and visionary keynote sessions,” they noted.
The Gujarat SemiConnect 2025 will feature the 19th edition of the IESA Vision Summit and the Indian Semiconductors & Packaging Ecosystem Conference (ISPEC). Scheduled for March 5-7, 2025, the event will be organized by the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), SEMI, and IESA.
During a press briefing at Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar, officials, including Mona Khandhar, GSEM Mission Director Manish Gurwani, SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha, and IESA President Ashok Chandak, shared insights about the event. Representatives from major semiconductor investors, including Micron, Tata, CG Power, and Kaynes, also provided updates.
Ajit Manocha highlighted Gujarat’s role in the shifting global semiconductor landscape. “The industry is diversifying to strengthen supply chains, giving India an opportunity to expand its market share. Gujarat’s policies and industry-friendly approach have been crucial in India’s semiconductor success. Through international collaborations, GSEM, SEMI, and IESA are committed to making India a global semiconductor player. Events like these will be instrumental in driving growth,” he said.
The event will be inaugurated on March 5, 2025, at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar by Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The theme, “Silicon Gujarat: Powering India’s Semiconductor Revolution,” will explore how a strong Semiconductor & ESDM sector can position India as a global technology and manufacturing leader. The event will focus on attracting investments, integrating local industries into global supply chains, promoting high-tech training, and fostering ecosystem development to build a robust semiconductor industry in Gujarat.
Key highlights include the groundbreaking ceremony for Kaynes Technology’s new semiconductor facility in Gujarat. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed, including those with Jabil Inc. for a Silicon Photonics facility, TSMT for a manufacturing unit, Micron for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives, and Tata Electronics with IIT Gandhinagar. Reports such as the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference 2024 and IESA’s semiconductor supply chain report will also be released, along with product launches under the “Make in India” initiative.
The event will feature keynote addresses and panel discussions with industry leaders, government policymakers, and technology innovators. Topics will cover emerging trends, advanced technologies, and global collaborations. Delegates will also have the opportunity to visit semiconductor clusters in Dholera and Sanand, showcasing Gujarat’s growing role in India’s semiconductor sector.
