Mobec Innovation has launched its first lithium battery recycling facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s clean energy infrastructure. The plant, capable of processing up to 6,000 tons annually, aims to reduce the country’s reliance on imported critical minerals while advancing sustainability efforts.
Expanding beyond its core business of B2B mobile EV charging solutions and energy storage systems, Mobec’s new facility utilizes advanced hydrometallurgical and mechanical extraction methods. These technologies recover essential materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, copper, and manganese from used batteries.
“Our goal is to reduce dependence on imported lithium and other critical minerals while efficiently recovering valuable resources,” said Harry Bajaj, CEO of Mobec Innovation. “This reinforces our commitment to green mobility, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.”
The recycling process involves multiple stages, including battery dismantling, component separation, black mass collection, purification, and metal extraction. The recovered materials will support industries such as electric vehicle manufacturing, renewable energy, consumer electronics, aerospace, and healthcare.
Experts highlight that this initiative aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) mission by localizing the supply chain for crucial battery components. The plant has secured all necessary environmental clearances from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and leverages Mobec’s in-house research and development capabilities.
