Bosch has introduced a new 800-volt electric drive system designed for high-power construction machinery at the bauma 2025 exhibition. The system features Bosch’s SMG230 electric motor and a silicon carbide-based inverter, offering enhanced efficiency and performance. The motor operates at voltages between 400 and 850 volts, providing up to 200 kilowatts of continuous power and 250 newton meters of torque. For brief periods, it can deliver a peak torque of 550 newton meters.
The 800-volt technology increases power density significantly. Compared to a similar 400-volt machine, this system provides an additional 80 kilowatts of power without adding weight. Alternatively, it offers a more compact design and lighter weight while maintaining the same power level. The silicon carbide-based inverter is highly efficient, with an efficiency rate exceeding 99%. This allows for faster switching and reduces energy loss as heat.
Bosch’s electric drive components are engineered for durability and reliability, designed to meet the rigorous demands of construction machinery. The compact size of the system ensures it can be easily integrated into tight spaces, allowing for retrofitting on existing platforms with eco-friendly electric drives. Bosch also offers support for integrating the system into machinery.
In addition, Bosch will showcase the new Rexroth eGFV9100 coaxial gearbox, designed specifically for the SMG230, at bauma, at booth A3/327. Bosch Engineering, in collaboration with Bosch Rexroth, provides development support for integrating the electric drive into construction machinery, leveraging the open ECOsystem BODAS platform.
