Kalyani Powertrain, a subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has signed a technology licensing agreement with Taiwan’s Compal Electronics to manufacture X86 platform servers in India. This partnership aims to develop a local server business in line with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative, which focuses on increasing domestic production. Compal will provide Kalyani Powertrain with crucial technological support, guiding the local production, assembly, testing, and sales processes.
Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge, expressed his excitement about the collaboration. “We are delighted to partner with Compal, a global leader in technology, to manufacture servers in India. This partnership will boost India’s manufacturing competitiveness and highlights the trust Compal has in the Kalyani Group,” Kalyani said.
Tony Bonadero, CEO of Compal, shared his enthusiasm for the venture as well. “We are excited to work with Kalyani Powertrain. With our shared goal of advancing the server business, Kalyani’s strong market knowledge in India will create a powerful synergy between our companies. We hope this partnership will open the door to more ICT-related business opportunities, creating value for both parties,” he said.
Kalyani Powertrain’s electronics division announced the launch of its locally manufactured servers, set for February 2025. The new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra, aims to boost regional business growth and contribute significantly to the local manufacturing ecosystem. “This factory will support local businesses and contribute to India’s growth as a manufacturing hub,” the company said in an official statement.
This collaboration plays a key role in advancing India’s digital infrastructure, particularly in areas like AI, cloud computing, and large-scale data management. By producing servers locally, the partnership aims to reduce India’s reliance on imported technology and provide businesses, cloud providers, hyperscalers, and government agencies with cost-effective, high-performance server solutions.
Kalyani Powertrain Limited (KPTL), which focuses on manufacturing components for electric vehicles and related sectors, expanded into the ICT industry in 2024. The company’s electronics division plans to produce servers locally in India, with the Pune facility set to begin operations in February 2025.
