A recent report by the International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that global data center electricity consumption will more than double between 2023 and 2028, reaching 857 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2028.
In response to the growing demand for power to support data centers worldwide, Rehlko, a global leader in energy resilience, is stepping up with sustainable energy solutions for data center operators.
Rehlko, previously known as Kohler Energy, brings over 100 years of experience in providing reliable power solutions to critical industries. Looking ahead, the company is focusing on combining traditional energy sources with sustainable alternatives that ensure both reliability and resilience.
In 2025, Rehlko plans to expand its sustainability efforts in several key areas:
Enhanced Conscious Care Program: Rehlko will build on its existing Conscious Care maintenance program. This initiative allows data center operators to test their emergency generators with no load and extend the testing interval to every four months. The program has already reduced fuel consumption, noise, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy costs. The expansion will further improve these outcomes.
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Rehlko recently introduced the first EPD for the KD Series generator set, aimed at mission-critical markets. This declaration, part of the PEP ecopassport program, helps assess and reduce the carbon footprint of generators, supporting more sustainable operations.
Partnership with iMasons: Rehlko continues its partnership with iMasons and has helped establish the “Data Centers As A Good Neighbor” initiative, in collaboration with Schneider Electric and other data center stakeholders. The initiative aims to develop a Social Accord, addressing the challenges faced by data center owners and operators in demonstrating their value to local communities.
Investment in New Technologies: Rehlko is investing in emerging technologies, such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and hydrogen fuel cells. These technologies help customers achieve resilience without compromising on environmental goals.
Ryan Baumann, Vice President of Sales, Power Solutions for the Americas at Rehlko, stated, “Our goal is to meet our customers where they are, providing backup power solutions that best suit their needs. Whether that’s traditional large-scale diesel generators or alternative solutions that support sustainability, we are committed to helping our customers achieve their goals.”
“At Rehlko, we prioritize our customers while driving forward our mission to create a more energy-resilient and environmentally sustainable future,” Baumann added.
Through these efforts, Rehlko is positioning itself as a key player in the sustainable energy solutions space, helping data centers navigate the growing power demand while reducing their environmental impact.
